Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee in CUHKThe use of animals in research remains critical in providing us more understanding towards the causes of disease and development of new treatments. Scientific advancements would only be possible with our joint commitment to the highest animal welfare standards in the conduct of research and teaching. Good care of laboratory animals involves attending to a range of physical and psychosocial needs of our animals and workers. This includes providing appropriate husbandry, the ability to express normal behaviour, veterinary health care, occupation health and safety of our workers. Taking good care of our laboratory animals is important for welfare concerns, but also contribute to trustworthy data and replicable science. Animal research is an essential part of the biomedical research process, and it is only ethical when we take the responsibility to ensure the experiments are up to scientific standards. |
Investigators must obtain Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (AEEC) approval prior to using animals in research or teaching and must adhere to the approved protocol in carrying out their activities. Investigators must comply with all other applicable AEEC, Laboratory Animal Service Centre (LASEC), and University requirements, including, for example, requirements regarding protocol changes, annual report, training, facility access, and occupational health and safety. |
